APEX VELOCITY COURSE
You hear it everywhere—velo, velo, velo.
Everyone wants to throw harder. Everyone’s chasing the radar gun. We all see the velo trends in today’s game—94 mph average velo from starters, 95.6 from relievers in the MLB. That’s the AVERAGE now. =-]
But we are also seeing the rise in injury rates…and the truth: velocity means nothing if it’s not gained the right way.
See, velo is a byproduct of efficiency. When the body moves well, when it moves in sequence, when it fires in harmony… the results take care of themselves. We don’t force velocity. We earn it through consistency, timing, tempo, and understanding.
Gaining velo isn’t achieved by one thing. It’s not just plyos. It’s not just weights. It’s not just moving faster or doing the latest drills you saw online. It’s the sum of all parts—mechanics, mobility, arm care, conditioning, strength, timing, mindset. It is a connection.
That’s where the kinematic sequence comes in. The best movers in the game don’t fight their bodies—they let energy flow through them in sequential harmony. When you do that, your arm doesn’t have to work as hard… and the radar gun starts to climb naturally.
Now, look around—there are velo programs everywhere. Some are good. Others… not so much. The key is knowing which ones prioritize your long-term growth, not just short-term numbers.
This is where the Apex Velocity Course comes into play. Our course incorporates every facet of the rotational athlete / overhand throwing experience in one spot. Workouts will consist of, but not be limited to:
- Full body range of motion/mobility
- lower half strength and stability
- arm care
- core/conditioning
- power/rotation/explosion… and now
- throwing drills and progressions that tap into the kinematic sequence to allow for power, health and consistency.

APEX PROGRAM STAFF
Danny Borrell boasts more than 20 years of playing and coaching experience both at the collegiate and professional levels. Through his experiences as a Professional pitcher and Pitching Coordinator with the New York Yankees, he has designed a program that IS the answer to one of the biggest issues currently seen by all ages of pitchers: How to properly develop a weekly routine that zeroes in on the individual needs of a pitcher. “How often do I need to throw?” “At what intent do I need to throw on a daily basis?” “What upper half and lower half workouts do I perform and when?” “What type of arm care exercises do I perform?” “How do I improve my Range of Motion?” “How do I increase power output?” “What types of Core and Conditioning exercises do I need?” Proper arm and body workouts are paramount in the ultimate development of an athlete.

Keith Borger
My name is Keith Borger, and I’m a physical therapist specializing in the treatment of baseball athletes. I’m partnering with the APEX arm care program to ensure your athlete’s safety and progress throughout the program. Here's what I’ll be providing:
- Initial Assessment:
- OnBaseU screen: A series of tests that help identify physical limitations (flexibility, strength, coordination) that may be affecting a baseball pitcher’s performance.
- Strength assessment: Using a device to measure key shoulder muscles that help keep the arm safe.
- Monitoring Progress: Periodic reassessments of the OnBaseU and strength screens to ensure improvement and confirm your athlete is on track.
- Open Office Hours: Time to ask health-related questions or provide a quick consultation if concerns or injuries arise."
